How to Create a Beautiful Gallery Wall
When decorating with posters, your imagination is the only limit. A gallery wall is a stylish and eye-catching way to display your favorite prints in a curated group on one wall, creating a harmonious and balanced aesthetic.
But before you start hammering nails into your wall, plan your layout carefully—and don’t forget to choose the right frames for your posters.
Things to Consider Before Hanging Your Posters
1. Location
Decide where your gallery wall will go. Over the sofa in the living room? Above the dining table? In the hallway or bedroom?
2. Wall Space
Measure the wall to determine how much space you’re working with. Allow 5–15 cm between each frame and take surrounding furniture into account—especially if placing prints above a sofa.
3. Placement
Step back and look at your room's layout. Poster placement should harmonize with the space. Consider aligning your prints with furniture for a balanced look.
4. Layout Planning
Arrange your framed posters on the floor first to test your layout. Mix sizes and orientations until you find a composition that feels right. Keep some breathing room between the prints—larger walls allow for wider spacing.
Choosing the Right Frame
Frame choice can drastically change the look and feel of your poster wall.
-
Matching frames in one style or color give a sleek, modern look.
-
Mixing materials and tones adds warmth and personality.
Natural oak frames offer a cozy, organic touch, while black wood frames create a clean, minimalist vibe. What suits your style?
Time to Hang Your Posters
Now the fun part begins. Start with the center-top poster and build outward. This gives structure to your gallery wall. Be sure to use proper nails or wall hooks and a level to ensure a clean, professional look.
